Leaving YES?

From Wikipedia:

"WFAN's contract with YES to simulcast Mike and the Mad Dog ends at the end of 2006. With the negative things that Chris Russo said about the Yankee organization in the summer of 2006, (including a heated on-air discussion with Yankees general manager Brian Cashman), it is possible that YES and WFAN will not continue the relationship. The show could then move to SportsNet New York or MSG Network. It should also be noted that there have been occasions where YES has ended a simulcast in progress due to comments that may have been too critical of YES or the Yankees. The two sometimes joke about the incidents when they get started talking about YES producers on the show or poke fun at George Steinbrenner's feud with former Yankee bench coach Don Zimmer. Still, Francesa and Russo say that YES does not censor them on-air."

YES really has not pulled them off the air since the beginning I believe. I could see them moving to SNY but who knows.

Rollins, PlayforPay asked me if you could remove a certain "someone's" reference in your "signature".....he is salavating at the opportunity to mention this certain "someone" and is reminded of it and fights the urge everytime he reads one of your posts.................

That wikipedia entry sounds like it was lifted from a column that I think Raissman wrote a few months ago. Since then I think it looks like that M&MD and Yes seem closer to a deal.

YES milks 6 and a half hours of the day out of them, there is only so much CenterStage they can show!!

MSG and SNY are both NYC sports stations and they've managed to fill a full schedule. It's not like it isn't feasible for them to leave YES.

I am sure its feasible, but YES is able to produce 1 program that fills all those hours during the day rather then having to develop several shows to fill the airs, or repplay the same Yankeeography over and over. BTW I havent seen MSG during the day in a long time, but when I did their programing was flat out unwatchable.

I know the schedules for MSG and SNY aren't great; that wasn't my point. My point was it's not like it would be impossible for them to fill the afternoon hours if Mike and Chris made the move (since 2 other sports stations dedicated solely to NYC have done so). And according to the article if they did so, it would be by their choosing, not YES's, so it wouldn't be like YES would send them walking in order to put better programming on.

Has Mike Mussina ever been on centerstage? I know Mussina and Yankee Boy don't get along. That would be a classic.

I heard a caller confront Kay about this on the air and it was really good. The jist of the story was that when Kay was still on the radio he went to go do his clubhouse report I believe it was after the game, and Mussina blew him off, and Kay said something like "Thanks alot Mike, your a real great guy". Then afterwards, Mussina came up to him and told him "not to be like that" and tried to bury the hatchett. But Mike told him that he would never interview him or go to him again if he was the last person on earth.

This was Kay's version of the story by the way.

He works for the Yankees, that's reason enough. Look at Francesa. He doesn't work for the Yankees, he's just a fan and most Yankee fans here (who are NOT arrogant) hate the fact he'sa Yankees fan cause that arrogance gives them a bad rap.

I could care less who Mike or Chris root for, every team has fans who are jerkoffs, I would not stereotype all a teams fans, just because some of them are arrogant.

As far as Kay, the guy is so bad. He is not a good play by play man and he is not a good show host. 1050 brought him in because he was a recognizable face and because of his connection to the Yankees, but I have never heard one insightful thing from him about the Yankees. All he does is bring A-rod on and they have on air lovefest.

Kay was at his best when he was John Sterling's color man on the radio broadcasts.
Totally on the money. He was very good in that role. Ever since then he has been Senor Obnoxious.

Kay never made the transition from TV to radio. Unlike in radio where dead in during the game is not a good thing, Kay still thinks that on TV he needs to talk all the time during the game. You can let the game breathe on TV Mike, its okay.
