b/c of past history - too many chances, one small thing always seals the deal.

Agreed. This is the most overlooked part of Imus's firing. He has done this time and time again. This time, most people decided not to take his **** anymore and now he is gone. If he was sorry, he wouldn't have done this as many times as he had. No one wants to hear this crap anymore from Imus. Plain and simple.

He did this to himself.

It's true its not about this one comment but about his history. However, it's fair to point out rappers and different comedy people making racial jokes and why don't they get fired?

I agree. It does, however, right or wrong, come down to money. Imus' comments lead to bad publicity/exposure from the media and a backlash from the show's sponsors. Once his supporters distanced themselves from him, Imus was a goner.

Now, I am part black and I have a big problem with the fact that so many of my own use such negative words and terms to describe ourselves. The words should not be used at all, by anyone, but we seem to do it with relative ease. There has been an outcry in the black community by some, but as long as these rappers, or entertainers, in general continue to have support financially, at least, they will continue to behave the way in which they do.

Blacks seem to not have a problem when their own use those hateful, destructive words, but let an "outsider" use it an watch out, all hell breaks loose. I liken it to your family. Sure, you could argue and say all sorts of things to your sister, brother etc but once a stranger uses it, someone is getting a beating. By no means am I saying that this is right, by unfortunately, I know far too many people that do this, yet get upset when they're called the "N" word, or something similar.

Jason Whitlocks piece on the whole affair is excellent and I agreed with him wholeheartedly. I didn't like what Imus said, but he has been saying those things for years. While I did not think he should have lost his job for this incident, it is his whole body of work that cost him his job. Had this been the first time he made such a remark, I would have been willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and would have been fine with a suspension.

Unfortunately, in this political and racial climate, there is a double standard, just as there is in everyday life. It also comes down to the individual and how they view their reality.
