buehls2002 12-11-2006, 03:19 PM UFC NOW GETS CLOSE TO AS MANY BUYS AS BOXING YET MIKE AND THE MAD DOG REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT. IF ITS JUST A FAD THEN THEIR FINE BUT IF IT REPLACES BOXING THEIR GOING TO BE LEFT BEHIND AS OLD MEN THAT WONT CHANGE THEIR VIEWS
Icelanders 12-11-2006, 03:25 PM I am a UFC fan, and they get no coverage but objectively the sport is not at that point yet.
They need to keep growing, but I see it being a long time if ever that they receive coverage anywhere. Dont worry about Mike and the Mad dog first try getting your sport on Sportscenter after a pay per view.
Dont know if the poster is a troll or not but I like the UFC and am willing to talk about it if anyone else does.
buehls2002 12-11-2006, 03:28 PM im not trolling seriously I watch boxing i still love the sport of boxing but it seems like its going to be a while before people start seeing that their taking a huge audience 60 minutes said one of UFCs last fight had more of the coveted 20 to 30 male crowd then the MLB playoffs and I also love Baseball.
jerome 12-11-2006, 03:31 PM i wonder if kellerman like ufc.
is this in reference to the 60 mins report last night?
im not listening.
Icelanders 12-11-2006, 03:34 PM Without a doubt Dana White has done a very nice job of promoting and growing the sport. He still needs to work hard to brake the stereotypes still associated with ultimate fighting. The link on yahoo said something to the effect of "new style of fighting with few rules". Thats not true of the UFC anymore but people still look at it that way.
Without a doubt UFC is moving in on boxing's audience though, and boxing should be worried about it.
buehls2002 12-11-2006, 03:41 PM Mike Always talks about the reason hes on the air is because he gets the ratings but they seem to refuse to even talk about UFCs climb. I called in just to talk about boxing losing its audience and they wouldnt even take my call. Its as if they know its coming but choose to look the other way.
Icelanders 12-11-2006, 03:52 PM First, Kudos for trying to call at least you are trying. But they hardly talk about boxing on the show so they well never talk UFC. That being said no show talks UFC, even 1050 who is supposed to be geared to the young generation, who is UFC's audience.
Francesa's Lunchbox 12-12-2006, 05:02 PM Mike and Chris are the first to talk about ratings, yet they don't do Nascar and they sure as hell talk much more baseball than football, yet the ratings for football and Nascar are tremendous.
Look, it comes down to what they feel comfortable speaking about. They have admitted that Nascar pulls in big ratings but they fail to talk about it because it's not popular int he NE. The rarely do any hockey, and basketball only gets a mention when Dog goes on some racist rant. He spends more time venting his misconceptions than breaking down a game.
These two are old fashioned. You'll NEVER hear them discuss UFC or MMA unless it's to rip it.
Unclever Name 12-12-2006, 05:05 PM Kellerman, on occasion, talks about UFC. But let's face it, it's really not as popular as many think.
buehls2002 12-13-2006, 03:17 AM Kellerman, on occasion, talks about UFC. But let's face it, it's really not as popular as many think.
Not as popular? It had over 700,000 buys on pay per view their last match. just 3 years ago no one knew about them. How can you say not as popular as we think?
Unclever Name 12-13-2006, 03:01 PM 700,000 buys? That's nothing; remember, it's for the 2006 year. There really hasn't been any great boxing matches in recent years.
The Poster 12-17-2006, 09:41 PM UFC NOW GETS CLOSE TO AS MANY BUYS AS BOXING YET MIKE AND THE MAD DOG REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT. IF ITS JUST A FAD THEN THEIR FINE BUT IF IT REPLACES BOXING THEIR GOING TO BE LEFT BEHIND AS OLD MEN THAT WONT CHANGE THEIR VIEWS
Well......they are old men. Regardless of how big MMA gets, they will never acknowledge it. With that said, if MMA gets real big, I can see this killing M&MD. At some point, they will have to accomodate the young listener, who as we all know, M&MD hate.
Mike Francesa: Your an 18 year old clown!
I can see him talking about Royce Gracie and Chuck Lidell (LOL)
mywaydimag 12-17-2006, 09:48 PM They barely even talk about basketball but you guys think they should talk about Ultimate Fighting and mixed martial arts? Let's be serious here.
There are nine or ten other sports more popular than UFC, most of which will get nothing but a passing mention on Mike and the Mad Dog most of the time.
Make all the arguments you want, I know that these guys are tremendous athletes, and obviously a hell of a lot tougher than some left handed reliever somewhere, but a sport where the only object is to brutally beat the living **** out of the other guy is never going to be a main stream sport in America. (It's much more violent than boxing.)
SteveJRogers 12-17-2006, 09:54 PM Wrestlemania gets more PPV buys
A craptacular WWE PPV gets more PPV buys
And WWE only gets mentioned when the host harkens back to watching wrestling back in the 80's with Hogan, Savage, Piper
dodgerdog 12-17-2006, 09:57 PM Jodie Mac is a huge UFC fan and will discuss it - even on a Saturday or Sunday morning if one calls in to discuss it. That's the great thing about his show - he seems to take any and all callers. It get about as much airtime as the NHL on his show.
