Dog going on and on with this movie The Queen. i guarantee that he can pick any seat in the theatre for that one.

Mike really going out on a limb picking Dreamgirls to be a hit

had to laugh at Mike a few days ago going on and on about the Harrison Ford chick flick Untamed Hearts, but he makes fun of Eddie Scozzare for liking Lord of the Rings and other sci fi/fantasy movies.

How can Mike not know Eddie Murphy? He keeps calling him Eddie Murray.

Mike Francesa, movie critic. He doesn't like Field of Dreams because they have Shoeless Joe Jackson batting right-handed. C'mon, the movie has dead people coming back to life to play baseball, and he's nit-picking on what side of the plate Jackson played on?!?!?

I've always had a problem with them talking sports movies. They love shitty movies like Bang the Drum Slowly, but for no reason at all, they hate Rudy.

Dog is the only person i know who takes movie advice from his senior citizen parents.

can someone correct Mike about Casino Royale ? he keeps calling it a remake when its not. its a remake in title only. the original was a comedy with Peter Sellers and David Niven and Woody Allen.

Thing I love is when they take callers like a Roger from New Haven at their word and never check on it.

When Regan died Roger brought out the old chesnut that Regan was who the studio "wanted" for the role of Rick in Casablanca.

Problem was, Regan never actually WAS considered for the role, and the role was always intended for Bogart!

Like the Mr. Rogers thing, there is a page on Snopes.com dedicated to it, and other Hollywood Urban Legends that explains that it was more the studio throwing out a trial balloon saying Regan was "attached" to the project (never even mentioned what role he'd be considered for) in a trade mag. Trying to stir up interest in the actor for other roles and such

From the NY Times 4/9/1942:

"Humphrey Bogart will play the lead in Warners' Casablanca, replacing Ronald Reagan, who will be called for Army service on April 19, the studio announced today.....

Driving home they were reading roles of a few actors, with Francesa saying whether he saw it or not. That's very important to me, whether MIke saw it or not. So they were doing Bogart and Dog goes Mutiny on the Bountiny......and he was reading it.

Opening the show they said it would be a big football show with a little baseball sprinkled in. Then they open with Baseball. Then I worked a little. I came back for drivetime and it was movies....old movies. James Cagneys career. Then the Jeffrey Lyons call about new movies with Francesa interrupting him whenever he felt like it.

As Dog says, it's tough to take.

They do?

I remember Blimpie talking about this one day on the radio.

Shortly after the movie came out, Mike said that someone (I can't recall), wanted to introduce Mike to the lead actor, Sean Astin, but Mike, in his usual, gruff manner, dismissed the guy and said he's busy.

He then said that he was flying somewhere and the movie was shown on the plane. He had no choice but to watch it, and he said he really liked it. He was surprised. He thought Dog would like it and said he should give it a shot.

That was around 95, 96 I think.

Had to jump in here with some of Francesspool y Doggies movie mess-ups.

Dog called "Giant" a great western!?

Dog called "Rear Window"..."Rear View Mirror"!!!!

Dog called "Mr. Smith goes to Washington"..."Jimmy Smith Goes to Washington" (natch, he knows not who Jimmy Smith was)

Francesspool y Doggie said they never heard of "High Sierra"...even tho it stars Bogie as 'Mad Dog' Earle!

Doggie said that "Winchester 73" was Tony Curtis' first movie...his first movie was the Jerry Lewis directed "How To Smuggle a Hernia Across the Border"..."Winchester 73" was Curtis's 10th movie

Doggie said that "Winchester 73" was also Rock Hudson's first movie...his first movie was "Fighter Squadron" in '48..."Winchester 73" was his 6th flick.

Doggie called "Angels With Dirty Faces"..."Angels With Dark Faces" (I believe that was the Al Jolson original...oy,oy)

Francesspool said that his two favorite Gregory Peck movies were "To Kill a Mockingbird" and (hold on to your fleeting gray-matter here) "High Noon"!!!!

Doggie called "The Owbow Incident"..."The Oxburrow Affair"!!!!????

Enuff already....jeezzz

Of course there was the time Mike was describing the movie "Daredevil" to Chris. Something to the effect of (and this was copped off IMDB, bit it is basically how Mike was describing the movie) :

Matt Murdock, played by Ben Affleck, is a lawyer who was blinded during a toxic waste accident when he was a kid. However, after that accident his other senses were heightened to a superhuman degree making him the costumed hero known as Daredevil.

Dog's response : True story Mike?

I thought Mike was going to keel over on that one. :-)

Did anyone catch the caller correct Mike on Eddie Murphy not Eddie Murray which Mike said twice

Right away Mike shouted I said Eddie Murphy, classic Mike, he can't take being wrong, such an egotistical fool.

today was pretty brutal. Nothing is worse than Dog reading Cagney titles and Mike going "No ... no ... no ..."

I like it when they talk about movies for MAYBE TWO SEGMENTS TOPS and once a year haul Lyons or someone in. I like that they are old-fashioned and that once in a blue moon they'll start talking about Ava Gardner for no reason.

But today was awful.

12-14-2006, 06:44 AM
No surprise, not one mention of Apocalypto, number 1 movie in America, tremendous buzz, of course it is probably too nasty for Mad Dog

We all know how he can't take watching violence

Little Birdie

is there a worst critic than Lyons ? he's so annoying when he calls in. i hate when he does his little trivia: "My grandfather knew a guy who was a bat boy for the '27 Yankees who later had a role in Casablanca who received a nickel from Humphrey Bogart......" who cares ??

i guess Chazz Palminteri's carrer is going great that he all this time to always call in to the show. neither of the boys has the balls to say that he hasn't done anything since "A Bronx Tale".

had to laugh at Mike saying "Guys i know in the movie business..." is there anyone the Great One doesn't know.

I remember listening to that and almost drove off the road. The Dumbest Man in America set a new standard with that one. As I recall, returning from a break, Mike had to offer a kind of apology to the audience, saying, essentially, Russo was "different". I guess the board was lit up with callers wanting to bust his nuggets. I can see Russo reading comic books in bed and falling asleep scared.

Not only that, but Murdock went on to be a pretty darn good lawyer!

Not sure if it's still there, but Malusis had it up as his "funniest moment on the air" on his bio page on WFAN.com

I'll cut Doggie a little slack since DareDevil isn't exactly at even Captain America/Iron Man or Ghost Rider's level in terms of being known among the masses, but only a little

Thats not the worse I've heard though, there is a difference between that and a complete lack of caring about that genre as I've heard the following exchange about Rudy star Sean Astin on Mike & Mike (Golic and Eric Kasilisus in for Greeny)

ERIC: Isn't Astin in that Harry Potter movie?
GOLIC: No, Lord of The Rings
ERIC: Is there a difference?

If I read the post right, the caller was responding to Chris saying the movie was *released* in 1940, saying it was released in 1942 (since it *started* filiming Dec 7, 1941)
