If you could sincerely say something good about Mike and the Dog... What would you say...

As much as I like to rag on them, they do keep my attention and have a good show.

All you have to do is listen to sports radio in another city and you see how good Mike and Chris are.........or listen to the guys before and after Mike and Chris......or listen to 1050. One guy I liked was Cowherd. I think he's funny, but they took him off. Anyway, I'm going to Florida next week and everytime I'm down there I appreciate our heros even more. The ragging, and I do it too, comes from the fact that many days the show is not as good as we know it can be because they get selfish and talk about the things they want to talk about, not what they should be talking about.

When there's a big story in NY sports, listening to them is practically mandatory. It's only on the slow days when they're so infuriating.

Great point. I think their absolute best run of radio was when the Knicks and the Heat had their famous bench clearing brawl, and the Heat ended up winning in seven games. I was not even a fan of either team, and I thought they were on top of their game during that entire incident.

while mike and dog are the best out there, i listen to colin cowherd on the internet here at work and he actually does a very entertaining show. likes to cover college football and alot of pop culture type stuff, so its definitely a good contrast to mike and the dog

They're only half as good as they used to be, but that's still twice as good as the other drek the 2 sports stations in NYC shovel at us.

I think most of us long time listeners know how good they CAN be and HAVE been. That I think is the crux of the issue. They CAN be great. They HAVE been great. It's just that it is fewer and farther between than now it seems. I still enjoy listening to them though. I just don't have the "wow, that was great radio" feeling as much as I used to.

I will say this, and I said this on the old board. During this years Mets LCS playoff series they seemed to capture that old magic in my opinion. It was fun, it was different (i.e. not Mike and his Yankees arrogance and Dog and his Yankee hatred, a new scene -- live remotes from Shea) and they were into it. I enjoyed that week or so a lot, and wished the Mets got to the series so it could continue. (Plus I dislike St. Louis) :-)

They are only half as good as they used to. They really don't like to prepare their show and they are very biased in their opinions.

They may be coasting a lot but to me they're the radio equivalent of comfort food, it doesn't really matter how "good" they are, they are very familiar and that makes them fun to listen to.

The best thing I can say is that they'll seem a whole lot better when Evan and Joe lead in ...

Like an elite athlete they are not on the pinnacle of their game anymore.

However, being a dad of young kids myself i know that my professional work product has also gone downhill too in recent years. it is inevitable and a fact of life. in my younger days i would often criticize those on my team that weren't "current" (im in technology field), now i know why. family inevitably becomes a priority in ones life as well it should be.

i love the "comfort food" analogy plus they STILL have no equal.

But Jerome, what's Dog's excuse for watching a different movie every night on Turner Movie Classics instead of the Knicks, Rangers or college basketball?

I'll buy some of the "family" argument but the bottom line is that they are the same as the superstar who just signed a multi-year contract. They know no matter what they do, they will still have this gig and get paid and they flaunt it by having "movie" day or other stuff like that.

They just aren't as hungry as they used to be simply because they've already been fed.
