Artie Bucco 05-15-2007, 02:44 PM What a crock of ****. The incident was aired on XM, not broadcast radio. It's like a rated R movie compared to regular TV. There's different rules. If you don't like it then don't put it on. How come its OK for movies (The Hills Have Eyes) to have a rape scene and HBO (The Sopranos) to have a rape scene but then Opie and Anthony get suspended for this?!?!?! F*** XM and F*** Bill O'Reilly and everyone else.
Oh Really 05-15-2007, 02:46 PM theyre ***ked
we know with imus and others how "suspensions" end
its a shame the level of pussification in this coutnry..
devils950003 05-15-2007, 02:53 PM You're absolutely right. The double standards in this country are disgusting. Look at all the crime shows that are on during primetime that show people who have been killed, maimed, tortured, etc. And I guess it's OK for Carrie Underwood to make a song about destroying her ex-boyfriend's car for cheating on her. By these standards, isn't she advocating vandalism if someone does you wrong? It's such a joke.
Francesa the Hut 05-15-2007, 02:56 PM The O&A virus, spreading...nowhere.
devils950003 05-15-2007, 03:25 PM You just get so sick of it. If you don't like what's being said, turn the damn thing off. No one's forcing you to listen but I don't think anyone has a right to dictate what people can and can't watch, read or listen to.
Dan Castello 05-15-2007, 03:32 PM I guess that it isn't where you said it (satellite, terrestrial, whatever) - it is just a matter that you said it at all that is the offense. If Imus had said the "nappy headed ho's" thing at home it would have been equally offensive. I wonder how soon it will be before just thinking those thoughts will get you into hot water. Sad but true ...
Oh Really 05-15-2007, 03:59 PM on wackbag there saying they just got fired
godamn
Francesa the Hut 05-15-2007, 04:10 PM someone tell me what they did please in a sentences or two
Had a guest on (a homeless guy) who said he was going to rape and beat Condi Rice. I don't think the guys condoned the comments, but in this climate, where everybody's offended...well, they had no chance.
Nobody Cares! 05-15-2007, 04:17 PM As a Stern fan, I could care less about O&A, but I will say that this is total BS. They should have the right to say whatever the F they want to say, especially if it was on the XM side. CBS is such a bunch of scared F's, they will fire and suspend anyone for anything.
As with Imus, these two were hired to "get ratings", be controversial, and get "attention". They do their job, they have their audience, they deliver the goods (at least on their own scale), yet for them to be "suspended" by CBS for something someone else said while they were not on CBS airwaves is a JOKE.
Why don't they just loop some '50s music on the CBS stations and leave the rest of the "real" programming to XM and SIRIUS.
Unclever Name 05-15-2007, 04:40 PM Are you serious?!?!? damn....
Unclever Name 05-15-2007, 04:41 PM Wait, they weren't suspended on the CBS side, which is okay....
racks 05-15-2007, 04:44 PM They haven't learned anything but how can they be suspended by XM? People pay to hear this crap.
Nobody Cares! 05-15-2007, 04:54 PM Wow! You're right. They were suspended by XM, not CBS.
That really is a crock!?
Unclever Name 05-15-2007, 05:00 PM I truly want to cancel my XM subscription now.
If Opie and Anthony truly were "deplorable" as XM would have stated, then the marketplace would take hold and the ratings of the O&A show would plummet. There was no sign that was happening. And the fact that XM is a pay service that is not regulated by the FCC, there should be a freedom to not worry about caving into pressure to say anything you want. If the public was truly outraged, then they'd be able to cancel their subscriptions if they were kept on. That did not happen.
Now XM will have to suffer consequences by the people who bought subscriptions just to listen to O&A, if in fact they were actually fired.
Oh Really 05-15-2007, 05:03 PM Wait, they weren't suspended on the CBS side, which is okay....
cbs coming out and saying theyll still be on there is the kiss of death
Now everyone is going to get suspended or fired anytime they say anything half controversial...
mutaman 05-15-2007, 11:43 PM Now everyone is going to get suspended or fired anytime they say anything half controversial...
No, only if their ratings suck like imus or they don't bring in that much money in the first place like O&A. This was just Clear Channel or whover owns XM sending a message to congress that they're good guys so please let the merger go through.
By the way, re the "controversial" **** that Imus and OA got in trouble for, does anyone think what either said is funny? Both sounded pretty dumb to me. Doesn't anybody want entertainment with their cheerios? Who listens to this ****?
Dan Castello 05-16-2007, 04:22 AM  Now everyone is going to get suspended or fired anytime they say anything half controversial...
That's why it was important, as a matter of principle, for MSNBC and CBS to have stood up in the face of the Imus controversy, taken appropriate measures based upon a rational look at the offense and meted out their own punishment. Instead they pandered to a lynch mob. Whatever happened to that national dialogue on race that Rev. Al said was going to come about due to this incident?
racks 05-16-2007, 07:25 AM XM and Sirius are trying merge. Making nice with the FCC may help them in their quest.

How can the FCC stop them from merging? I'm not being sarcastic either. How can the FCC control their business. After all it's paid satalite radio. What if I started a russian satalite radio company, could the FCC stop me then?

The FCC regulates all telecommunications mergers to make sure that companies aren't participating in a monopoly. Recent examples have been investigating Microsoft, the AOL-Time Warner merger, breaking up AT&T, etc.
racks 05-16-2007, 05:14 PM They merger could be stopped by the government. It makes XM look more responsible.
There has to be a line but now everytime someone says anything they're going to be suspended...wheres that thin line between free speech and taking it too far?
Unclever Name 05-17-2007, 11:46 AM There has to be a line but now everytime someone says anything they're going to be suspended...wheres that thin line between free speech and taking it too far?
Nobody knows........that's the problem with the new overly PC world.
racks 05-17-2007, 02:15 PM Not everything is about free speech.
Francesa the Hut 05-17-2007, 02:58 PM Not everything is about free speech.
Yep. This isn't about free speach. This is about $$$$$$$. Everybody has a right to say what they want, but that doesn't mean there aren't reprecussions for what you say.
