"This is why I don't watch the NBA"

How many damn times do I have to hear a caller go on about the NBA and then at the tail end of the call say.........

This is why I don't watch the NBA

I don't watch Tennis. I don't feel the need to pick apart the show for 5 minutes to prove to everybody that I don't watch the sport. If you don't watch the NBA, then shut the hell up about it. I feel like strangling the life out of some of these callers that talk out of both sides of their mouth. I will not hear analysis from an idiot that doesn't watch the damn league! It is just so frustrating, and I hope that there will be a host that will take these type of callers to task.

Oh Really

It's pretty pathetic. No one says "This is why I don't watch the NHL."

It is stunning how people that "don't watch the NBA" know so much about it.

I don't watch Desparate Housewives. I don't feel the need to pick apart the show for 5 minutes to prove to everybody that I don't watch the program. Yeah but hours of a call-in talk show and good portions of news updates aren't dedicated to talking about the goings on on Desparate Housewives the way an NBA story does.

Better example would be "...and this is why I don't watch baseball" or "...and thats why I don't watch the NFL"

Okay, I changed the analogy from Desparate Housewives to Tennis. But hopefully everybody gets my point.

why did someone beat the **** out of some else at the French Open today? or another bullshit tennis match? oh no!

TO, the reason people end the call like that is that at one time they probably WERE nba fans who are now disappointed in the product, conduct, etc. im not that over the top but i dont remember when the last time i said I GOTTA WATCH THIS NBA GAME TONIGHT......and im in a big money fantasy hoops league.

Oh Really

I guess your right. The sports fan who avoids the NBA can't avoid NBA news being thrown in their face. With that said, this brings up a point. What is the purpose of staying on the phone for a hour just to rag on a league one doesn't care for? To me, that is someone that is being negative. That's crap!

Fair enough, but its sometimes like what I'd say to a co-worker (as well as a roomate I had in college) who annoys me about my Mets (and other baseball related issues) "For someone who hates the sport as passionatly as you do, you talk an awful lot about it"

If you take fighting out of hockey, you will have some really ugly incidents involving sticks being used as weapons. I know most people will jump all over this comment, but most of the time there is a method to the madness of fighting in hockey. High sticking, slashing and even spearing with go way up if fighting is taken out of the sport. You need goons to protect your skill guys. That way, if you f**k with one of our skill guys, there will be conscequences - conscequence involving swinging fists not swinging sticks. Whether you agree or disagree, that is the mindset - especially in North America. It's starts in Juniors and even sometimes before in Pee Wee & Midget levels. It's part of the fabric of the sport. Hell, they even keep stats on fights

Plus at least hockey players can fight. When was the last time a punch actually landed in an NBA or MLB fight. Carmelo swung like such a bitch the other night, then proceeded to back up as soon as his little girl follow through was finished. If he really wanted to throw, he could have dropped the guy easily because it was such a sucker punch - too bad he was backing up before the punch even landed. Was his first even closed? It looked like more of a slap. I love how every one stands around talking **** in the NBA, but as soon as it's go time no one throws real punches that have bad intentions. It's more like a bunch of broads pushing & slapping each other. What a bunch of panzy asses!!

If you want to see some real men fight go to you tube and search "Hockey Fights" - Donald Brashear or George Laraque.

No one watches hockey anyway, but at least hockey players have balls and fight like men

People end their calls that way because they used to be big fans and are disappointed. I disagree that it's a racial reaons for everyone (maybe for some). THe league decided to market players instead of teams. Also, many of the players are more concerned with scoring as many points for themselves or showing up on Sportscenter with a good dunk, than winning games. The Ron Artest incident turned me off to a great extent because the players ran into the stand to assault a fan, who didn't even throw the cup at Artest and the NBA analysts on ESPN were defending the players. THerefore, the players are justified in running into the stands and assault fans who have probably paid at least $100 for their seats. The KNick incident doesn't even bother me that much because Denver was running the score up and the Knick players at least showed they cared enough to give a hard foul. People don't call and say "that's why I don't watch hockey" because they don't watch hockey in the first place. I actually used to be a big hockey fan and was completely turned off by the fighting and the league's promotion of fighting. Basketball is a great sport, but it's tough to care when the players don't care enough to show up at practice.

That's not entirely true. I'll never forget when the Bruins climbed over the boards in 1979 to go after Rangers fans at MSG. Similar incidents have occurred in hockey, it just doesn't get as much media play because the sport in general does not receive the exposure.

I like that point. I personally have no problem with the fighting in all of sports. More often than not it unites teams. I just have a problem with the hypocrisy of the callers. You gotta be consistent!
