Favorite Callers

Hey: First time poster here.

I've been listening to the show since I was in High School in the early 90's. Here are a couple of the callers over the years that I remember.

Vinny from Queens: Whatever happened to that guy?
Eli from Westchester: I remember him as well
Jerome from Manhattan: Did he croak?

He was one of the funniest guys ever on the Fan.

Some of his Mac and Sid calls were classic.

I'm a huge Mike from Montclair fan, he pisses Francesa off all the time.

Doris from Rego park, huge Met fan which was always good.

I'm mixed about the Al from White Plains. Sometimes he's good often he can be a total ******.

Maureen from Anaheim stinks. There is also some woman who calls and nags and nags about the Yankees, forgot her name but is God awful to listen to. Noticing a trend...

i usally hate mike from montclair because hes as yuppie as u can get and all his calls are on steinbrenner and how great a game baseball is and how bad the other sports are because they have scary minorities with tatoos..

but yesterdays call was great because he called out mike for having an agenda with tiki and mike looked enraged, his eyes popped out like in the godfather when michaels wife told him she got an abortion..

Well, I don't know about Jerome, but according to wikipedia, Vinny from Queens died in a car accident 10 years ago.

Bill from Brentwood sounds like the elf JIngle or Jangle from the Christmas special with Heatmiser. I hate Judy who's always bitching about the Yank$. I also don't like that Guy who lives for OHio State football. Talks with Marbles in his mouth. BIG JIM is his name. Time is short and so is Al..

I must of missed that about Vinny. I didn't listen much to the Fan between 1995-2000. He always had good Yankee commentary.

Jerome from Manhattan is still around. If you search through the old board archives we have discussed him frequently.

He has recently been on with Jody Mac (1050) every weekend it seems and is usually his first call on either Saturday or Sunday. I have heard him on WFAN with Steve Somers about a month or two ago. (Detailed it on the old board)

I think my new favorite caller is "Rollins College 4 Life". :wink:

Not even 2 minutes. I actually told Mellussis I didn't want to be on air but he goes OK hold on and put your radio down.

I called to tell them they were wrong about Time Warner Cable/NFL Network.

Did anyone read the blurb on Eli from Westchester on wikipedia? Apparently he was a regular caller to the Lionel show and one night while waiting on hold Eli fell asleep and Lionel put his snoring on the air.

1) Did you ask Francesa's Lunchbox if he is plastic or metal? cmon dude, it is an homage to the great jerome! im hardly the "special" person he is. jerome with an internet connection is a scary thought.

I know its 1050 but I think without a doubt Brandon Tiernary has the funniest callers. He has these group of psycho callers who apparently call him every night he is on(I dont listen to him to often but I got the impression that they called every night) and they actually threaten other callers its hysterical.

I remeber once someone had called and was getting on Ewings legacy as a Knick, and the next caller, it was a Spanish name, I forget what it was but he was a regular told BT that while he was on hold he got so enraged that he wanted to go find the caller who was bashing Ewing and bust him up.

There were a couple of other calls like that two it was scary and funny all at the same time!!!

Bruce From Bayside called Joe Benigno last year and told him he had a mail order bride from Russia and she cleaned out his bank acount and fled the country

What ever happened to Big Jim from CT? He would call overnights from his bed in a nursing home.

I agree about Cisco with that Que Pasa BS enough already.

Mike from Montclair is very very jealous of Joe Benigno as he wanted that job but Mikey threw the kabosh on that.

Dog once invited Eli from Westchetser to a party he had in his Manhattan apartment when he was single. Eli showed up in a limo with a blonde chick on his arm. By the way Eli played briefly for the Packers about 30 years ago.

Ira from SI has a special number to call and gets on right away.

Dennis from Yonkers is another wanna be talk show host and is a regular at the Russo house.

Does Ray from Boston call any more? I thought he had quite a depth of sports knowledge. I also remember Dennis from Yonkers, who I think was friends with Russo. An all time great was John from Sandy Hook. He and Francesa used to have great discussions about horse racing (I know, not everybody's bag, but I like it).

Eli played briefly for the Packers about 30 years ago.



Eli Strand spent 1965 on the Packers taxi squad. In '66 he was traded to the the Steelers and after being cut by them went to the Saints, where he actually was a starter for awhile. He also was cut by the Falcons in training camp. Eli says one of the reasons he never succeeded in the NFL is because management didn't like his attempt to lobby black players into demanding to be treated more fairly.

Heard Ira From Staten Island this morning with Joe. Joe mentioned that Ira called him about an hour before gametime from Green Bay. Guess Ira has Joe's home phone number. UGH!

Yes he is!! I just heard him just recently on with Tony Paige, and Paige was having a ton of caller dialogue with the Mayweather/de la Hoya match. Short Al broke the momentum up by talking about the Brooklyn Dodgers. Gotta love rally killers.

Short Al is pretty good...Ira is annoying as hell...Jerome is the greatest and still has his moments...and I like Mike Montclaire.

Not a favorite, but Don in Eastport is a lame caller.

It's full of him glossing himself with Joe..."Hey Joe are you gonna be over this weekend? Hey Joe you coming by tonight? Oh Joe we had a great time last night."

So what man, just make your call...If you're so "tight" with Joe then you can call him off-air rather than try to act as if you're someone through the air.

That's Mike from Mahopac. One day I was listening to Sid Rosenberg's Miami show, and he thought he was having Sterling on as a guest, but someone at the Fan apparently gave him Mike's number instead. So he interviewed Mike for a few minutes before he realized it wasn't the real Sterling. It was one of the funniest things I've ever heard.

Cisquo is funny, IMO.
Ira is boring and stunningly one-dimensional.
Dennis is cool.
Al is a jacka$$.

But without a doubt, the worst regular caller is VAL FROM BROOKLYN. With his incoherent mumbling, it is impossible to understand him, which is a good thing, but just his annoying giggle bothers me. A regular on Joe and Evan's show, Val often presents himself as quite the lady's man. How funny is that? A total waste of air time.

Eli from Westchester - Always a fun call - you knew where it was going
Joe from Saddle River - Who would have thought
Jerome - Love his calls - The best!

But without a doubt, the worst regular caller is VAL FROM BROOKLYN. With his incoherent mumbling, it is impossible to understand him, which is a good thing, but just his annoying giggle bothers me. A regular on Joe and Evan's show, Val often presents himself as quite the lady's man. How funny is that? A total waste of air time.

Val seems amiable enough, but his calls are rarely interesting. Even if you can understand him (if the FAN had close-captioning, his calls would read something like "Glah glah glah, Joe. [Deep breath.] Glah glah glah glah Yankees.") the subject is usually a phone conversation they had the day before, or some other in-joke between him and Joe.

Can't understand Val half the time...but thats what is funny.

Last night Liguori a guest on and they were taking calls, I am drawing a blank on the name of the guest (a baseball guy). Anyway, Val comes on and mumbles something and then says his brother is a limo driver and is driving him around.

Ann was like "oh wow, that is nice" in a surprised, why are you telling me this type voice. Anyway I had to turn it off right there because I was cringing on what Val would say next to the poor guest and if *anyone* would be able to understand it.

Anyone catch that last night? I should of left the radio on for the train wreck aspect, but alas I didn't.

Today he was mumbling to Joe and Evan about his 28 year old driver named "Sandra" who is taking him to the first Mets-Yanks game on Friday. Supposedly he is meeting Evan in front of the Diamond Club entrance at 6:15. Some needs to document this meeting on video perhaps?

I have no idea what Val brings to the table as a caller. Joe seems to love him, but Val is boring and destroys whatever flow the progarm may have.

At the end Mike said "Williams was a lot better guy in private than in public while DiMaggio was better in public than private".

Yeah, that guy is good. I actually heard him a couple of weeks ago with Beningo and Roberts. They asked him what has he been up to. He didn't want to say. :) He called to talk the Derby with them.

A well informed caller who used to speak with Tony Paige all the time but I haven't heard him for a long time is Mac from Woodbridge. He was a huge fan of all things Pittsburgh and really sounded like he fell right out of the middle of the hills

I know he had health problems, anyone know if he's still around and kickin?

Yeah the 96 guy was ummm funny and then I think maybe a couple of years ago I heard him...maybe even more recently than that and they were like "where the heck have u been"...peoples lives change I guess but sometimes you wonder about some of these callers who disappear then reappear and seem to say nothing about why they haven't called in years...after calling weekly.

Ira the Jets uber fan is the biggest rally killer. He'll call in when they have a good run of calls on a specific topic and interrupt it with an update on Jets mini camp about their new 3rd string offensive tackle out of UTEP. And whenever he calls you hear background noise of phones ringing in his office.
