Big storm brewing at WABC

Folks, for those of you that listen to WABC (which I do, I'm not conservative or anything, but you gotta admit, it is a great radio lineup), it looks like Don Imus has made himself a few enemies at the station already, and hell, it looks like he managed to do so even before his first show.

Sean Hannity as we all know, stood up for Imus during his controversy. But from what it sounds like, it seems to me that he never wanted Imus at the station. During one of his shows, Hannity blasted Imus for harshly criticizing his own audience. From there, Hannity said that he loved his audience, unlike Imus.

Now we fast forward to March 7, 2008 where Hannity again blasts Imus for calling two producers "fatso" and "snake". What makes funny is that the two people Imus blasted hired him to begin with. Hannity goes on to say "You brought this into their lives", referring to Imus as "this". During the whole tirade, you can tell Hannity wanted to say more, but had to bite his tongue a bit to hold the company line.

And if that isn't bad enough, Hannity would go on to say that if Imus blasts him, Rush, or Mark Levin, they will go to war with him.

Well, too late Mr. Hannity, because Imus did blast Rush, saying he has done nothing for the soldiers overseas. He tried to blast Hannity for the same claim, but after the commercial break, backed off as they found out that he has performed several chartiable activities for the troops.

Yes, it does get worse. Imus has blasted a prominent member of the WABC lineup on a regular basis. No, not Rush, or Hannity, or Ingraham. But 89 year old radio legend Paul Harvey. And why? Because his news and comment segment cuts 5 minutes into his program.

So congratualtions Imus. In four months, you have made yourself a pariah at WABC.

Good, I'm glad to see that the I-Man still has some balls. The only host I really liked was Ron Kuby, anyway. Although Hannity did go out of his way on both his radio and TV shows to defend Imus, does that mean that Imus must call him "a Great American" like the jerk-offs who call into Hannity's program? It's offensive and jingoistic. If these extremists think that deployment to Iraq is so honorable, rather than sucking up to Hannity they should enlist and find out firsthand.

With respect to Rush, one of Rob Bartlett's best caricatures is his Rush Limbaugh persona and "The Limbaugh Rock" theme song. If Hannity and his fat, phony, prescription pill addicted (and convicted felon) pal Rush are so arrogant as to think they are above criticism by someone with a show that's all about satire, $#&@ them!!! Like Imus has always said, his show is about entertainment and a few laughs. (very few lately, BTW) Part of his schtick has always been ripping the station management and other on-air hosts; should he change it now because Rush is offended?

As far as WABC itself, how many of these right-wing, pseudo-nationalist warmongering hosts have ever served so much as one day in the military? The answer is zero. The only time they have ever questioned the White House on this has been when they wanted more ground troops.

Imus, who honorably served 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, is the only one who has questioned the elected officials' judgement in sending the troops into this mess. He also help expose the broken Veteran's Administration system and the shameful treatment our severely injured soldiers were receiving. The rest of those phonies don't want to piss off the Republican administration so their "support", such as it is, simply promotes the Republican Iraq policy and "war on terror."
