NameDropper 11-30-2006, 01:06 PM Does anyone really know the genesis behind the supossed "friendship" between these two ego manic whales? I can not imagine Parcells giving some "radio" guy a chance to weasel his way into his ego-centrical world (when you put it in perspective, Fat-cessa was/is not even in Parcells league, just shocked Parcells would let him in)
jayjay 11-30-2006, 01:25 PM I think Mike met him when he was coaching the Giants

It involved the ponies.
Rollins College 4 Life 11-30-2006, 01:49 PM Roe is somehow related to Bill also. Not sure of the connection but there is one.

I can tell you, but it involves rubbing oil and Barry White playing in a dimly lit room. :D

One of Bill's ponies? :D
I know, low blow. I apologize. I shouldn't have gone there, but couldn't pass it up. Way too easy... :D
say something funny mike 11-30-2006, 06:33 PM why is Parcells never on the show, if Mikey is such good friends with him. always found that curious.
Lawnmower 11-30-2006, 06:34 PM Francesa & Parcells had a short-lived weekly NFL show on the MSG Network in 1991. That was the year after Parcells left the Giants.
I've heard that is where they became good friends. I forget the name of the show. It was a different show than the "Live from the Play by Play" show.
vtred 11-30-2006, 06:47 PM I forget the name of the show.
"Around the NFL" was the name of the show
Mi Keg 11-30-2006, 07:10 PM Rumor has it that it had something to do with Fatcessa sharing a 3 foot Italian hoagy with Parcells one night after the last hero shop in town closed...
Gun to your head 11-30-2006, 09:17 PM Didn't Francesa and Parcells have a show on Channel 4 Sunday mornings when Parcells was Giant head coach (or maybe it was Jet head coach)? It was one of those typical coaches show where the coach actually says nothing, but I am pretty sure Francesa was the host with his buddy.
I know this doesn't answer the question, but thought I would toss it out to see if IIRC.
The Poster 12-01-2006, 12:03 AM why is Parcells never on the show, if Mikey is such good friends with him. always found that curious.
The only time I head Parcells on the show was when Wellington Mara died.
bedriddenmike 12-03-2006, 11:07 AM I've always questioned Francesa's supposedly close friendship with Parcells. I would put it at closer to an acquaintance basis than that of a close friend like Francesa always claims. There are a few points concerning this so-called relationship that makes me come to this conclusion:
First, I remember reading an article in SI and other sources that claimed that rarely did Parcell's close friends or family refer to him as 'tuna' and only the media does. Francesa for years referred to his 'good buddy' Bill as 'tuna'. A close friend wouldn't do that.
Next, I remember when Parcells coached the Jets to the AFC championship and lost, Francesa insisted that Bill would coach in the All-Pro game. He said something in the context of 'Bill told him he would and his health wasn't a concern.' A few days later Bill pulled out of the game citing health concerns and Bellicheck, who was the Jets assistant head coach at the time coached the game instead.
Then when his man-love Bill was the head coach of the Jets he swore that on the way home after the Jets arrived at the airport after an away game he was the first person Bill called. Yeah, right. I'm an NFL head coach or head coach on any level I'm getting off a plane or bus or whatever to go home and the first call I make is to someone in the media, not my wife girlfriend, mom, dad, etc.
The last thing is Francesa used to always claim how he and Bill were partners in the horse owning business. Francesa used to fail to acknowledge that he was part of a large group with up to a dozen or so people who owned horses together not just him and his close friend Bill.
Does he know Bill? Yes. Does he have a private line to call Bill on? Yeah, sure, but a lot of media-types have direct lines to head coaches. Are they close as Francesa would like to believe? No, I sincerely doubt it. Do they talk about other things other than the NFL? Sure, but don't you think Bill would use his influence on a suck up like Francesa in the media to get positive picture of his himself painted on a daily basis and who also defends him incessently no matter what the situation? You bet. Do they have dinner or catch a horse race every so often? Sure. Has Bill ever been to Mike's home or vice versa? Doubtful.
Francesa just uses this 'relationship' to pump up his already overly inflated ego and to make himself even more of an NFL insider when he surely isn't.
The Poster 12-03-2006, 11:43 AM That's an excellent post bedriddenmike. I wonder if Francesa knows Parcells real name? I would imagine that friends and family would call him by his given name instead of Bill.

This pretty much summed up my thoughts, just didn't feel like typing all that.
