thank you to me for typing audio 60 in its entirety so it could be pasted here. ;)

As I said a bunch of times in the other thread, Francesa got the phrasing wrong on the Bledsoe the last bunch of times he asked it.

Originally, it was the only first overall draft pick to lose the only Super Bowl he started

or something like that.

Answer : Keith and Jim Fahnhorst (49ers in 1985)

yisman

That would be the answer if they asked what pair of brothers won a Super Bowl together.

the answer to the question from WFAN is posted above.

There are four pairs of brothers who have Super Bowl rings as players. Only one of the pairs won it on the same team, in the same year.

Yes thank you for typing out the audio text, and whoever did the other one. I usually give the credit, but had the busy work scenario going. :) My apologies to you and the others.

And regarding the Drew Bledsoe thing, no matter how they phrase the first overall pick question, the answer they are looking for is Drew Bledsoe. So a contestant can either give the answer they are looking for, or sit there and argue the premise and tick Mike off. :)

the other problematic question is the two teams who won more than 12 games after winning the Super Bowl.

Tank hung up on someone for saying Patriots.

The Patriots went 14-2 after winning a Super Bowl, so they should be a correct answer. It wouldn't even matter what the other team was if they aren't accepting Patriots as an answer.

nbpollac
01-20-2009, 09:02 PM
I agree with you. The Bledsoe question was dead wrong. I know that they meant for the answer to be Bledsoe, but the fact is, he won a championship with the Pats and the way they phrased the question misled you.
And with regard to the question about defending champs that won 13+ games, I also have a problem. The question was 'which 4 defending champs won 13+ the next year." But there are definitely more than 4: 1986 Bears (14), 1989 49ers (14), 1990 49ers (14), 1997 Packers (13), 1998 Broncos (14), 2004 Patriots (14), 2007 Colts (13). Maybe what the question was supposed to be was which 4 defending champs won 13+ games but did not win the SB--in which case you would have the 86 Bears, 90 49ers, 97 Packers and 07 Colts.

nbpollac
01-20-2009, 09:04 PM
I also left out the 83 Redskins, who won 14 games. So either way, the question makes no sense.

I think it would have to be something like this.

I'm guessing Mike wouldn't get angry at the guy and hang up on him accidentally, so Patriots really isn't an answer.

The problem is that it was asked completely wrong. We really don't know what the question is supposed to be.

I think, because Otis reference this year's Giants won 12 games, that the question was supposed to be which 4 Super Bowl champions won more regular season games the next year. Mike has referenced this with the Giants before. But, other than the Giants this year, 5 teams have accomplished this: the 75 Steelers, the 83 Skins, the 89 Niners, the 98 Broncos, and the 07 Colts.

OK, handwave me if you must. I didn't hear this one. But reading it, how does it figure with LT's two Super Bowls? In their first Super Bowl, they weren't underdogs, and in their second, they didn't turn the ball over at all. I guess it could have been after the NFC champ. game in San Fran. I know they were underdogs but don't remember them turning the ball over in that game.

as there are a helluva lot more than 3 qualifying teams to chose from. Incidentally, I don't think Junior Seau is the answer to the "longest time-span" question, as there's no way anyone who wasted the greater part of his career on the Chargers could be correct. Jerry Rice sounds more like it (1985-2003).

I thought it was longest time span between appearances, not longest between first and last appearance. And Rice's first SB was in 1988, not 1985. His rookie year was the year after they beat the Dolphins in SB XIX.

Hey everyone. I got the answer to every question asked this year, last year, and the year before all written down. If there are questions that have not been answered or needs answers just drop a list and i'll post all the answers.

I had no luck and couldn't get through last year, and same is going this year. 3 years ago I did get through and got to the 4th question which was an audio and missed.

As far as this years Audio's go the Audio 16 where the guy is commending LT I have to believe that it's either another Giant LB that played in the 86 or 90 super bowl or a LB from the losing team that played against them in either of those years. My best 3 guesses would be Carl Banks, Daryl Talley(Bills LB), or Pepper Johnson.

Let's Clarify this...

Fulton Walker was the First player to return a kick-off for a TD in the Super Bowl. (he did it in the second Quarter 98 yard TD return)

Devin Hester is the ONLY player to ever return the Opening kick-off for a TD in a Super Bowl. (hester was on the opening Kick-off of the game)

True but you never know. If you take key's from the show, Mike had said "wow if you get this you earned it" so I'm thinking it is def someone tough to get. I'm curious why Andre Tippet would be talking about Lawrence Taylor though since he was in the Super Bowl the year before LT was. Banks or Pepper Johnson are pretty easy guesses, i'd def give Daryl Talley a guess

The Tippett speculation (at least from me) is that these guys like to recycle audios from guests they've had at previous SBs. And they had on Tippett last year when he got in the Hall of Fame.

The question-4 questions that people have won on have been ridiculous--the one yesterday about losing the turnover battele is so easy, and the one with Tippett really wasn't as difficult as they made it out to be. How hard is it to come up with some real good, google-proof questions?

They should never re-use the 4th question. They should just give the answer after the person gets it wrong and cross it off.

is it the 2001 Rams?

That's what I was thinking. As bad as their D was they must have scored the most during the regular season.

Also didn't one guy answer Norm Johnson who had the longest Field Goal for the steelers and they said he was wrong. From all my research Johnson kicked a 46 yard field goal in super bowl 30, before that the longest was 41 by Matt Bahr. Who had longer?? I can't find it unless they made a mistake

no one had longer.

johnson had the longest and bahr was second longest

maybe they mean FG attempted

Steve Christie, 54 yards, XXVIII, Bills-Cowboys.

That is the longest in SB history, but the question was who has the longest field goal by a Steeler in a Super Bowl and that is Norm Johnson which someone did answer Today and they said he was wrong....

That is very possible, but again they miss-worded the question and didn't clarify, they should give that guy another shot. They should research there questions better and word them better.

They also need to stop asking the same easy questions. My kid brother who is 10 was answering these question he heard them so much and he knows nothing about football. This contest was much more difficult when the "Marqui!!" was running it.

I didn't think the Bledsoe one was that bad, he technically didn't win a Super Bowl. He lost the only one he started. He got a ring for being on the Roster in SB 36 but he didn't play so he really didn't win the super bowl.

The Question on who Kicked the Longest Field Goal for the Steelers is def miss-leading. Just for the Record Norm Johnson made the longest a 46 yarder (which was already stated) but Roy Gerela Attempted the Longest Steelers Field Goal a 51 yarder that hit the crossbar in Super Bowl 13. Just incase anyone get's through tomorrow and get's asked it just make sure you clarify if there asking for longest made or longest attempted.

Just wish i could get through, be on my way to Tampa if i could :(

You're right about the Norm Johnson question. Here's what I wrote on today's show thread:

The first caller up for the contest today will be a friend of mine, who was wrongly bounced yesterday. He was asked who has the longest field goal in Steelers Super Bowl history, and when he answered Norm Johnson was told wrong, goodbye. Only problem is no Steeler had a longer one than Johnson's 46-yarder in SB XXX. So with some assistance from me (I know how to get through to some people at the station), he spoke to the right people who confirmed that they screwed up. (A great example of the sports knowledge among the higher-ups there - Eric Spitz told him the Steelers had a 47-yarder in Super Bowl 40. My friend: Um, they won 21-10.) Anyway, he will be up first at 2:00, and I have been promised his extra ticket if he wins.

Any all joking aside, Audio 12 really doesn't sound at all like LT to me. I have heard interviews with him after SB 21 and SB 25 and they sound nothing like him. Actually the more i think and listen to Audio 12 I think it might be Doug Williams. They were under dogs vs Denver, they did win easy which goes with the "it wasn't as easy as it looked" statement. They did turn the ball over twice in the game and with the whole Barrack Obama thing going on he has been on ESPN and other radio shows giving interviews and endorsing Obama. Listening to some of his ESPN interviews it does sound a lot like him.

If you get through and get this audio and i'm right shout me out on WFAN! hahaha

I have to agree with the interpretation that whomever this is talking was referring to turnovers recovered. In the history of the SB there have been 11 underdogs who have won and none of the teams that won had more than 2 turnovers. So when he says a few turnovers he must be referring to takeaways.

Thanks for the help guys....I'm the guy who answered Norm Johnson, correctly, but was waived off. Fortunately my boy "MBY" has the right connections and Spitz was good enough to get me back on. Thought I had the Tasker question right yesterday but appreciate the help anyway. Damn phone lines are tied up all day with callers who know just as much as Eddie Erickson.

MBY - we're going to Miami next year, guaranteed.

And the fact that he didn't know how to pronounce "Mercein" means you know he never heard of him until seeing it on this board.

Serious question here regarding the contest/Google/this board. I know that there are many trolls that come here for no reason other than to sponge off of this thread in the hope of winning the contest. There is no question there. The small issue that I have is all of the "I know that he Googled that" or "I know that they got the answer from this thread" comments. How do we know?? Is there any proof there?? Even if they did, what is the big issue (other than the 1 that I will comment on later)?? My point is that I would assume that most of the answers to the questions posted in this thread were Googled by members and then posted here. Why fault someone else for either doing the same or coming to a condensed reference source for the information?? I would be flattered to a point. Back to the 1 issue.......I understand that this site is free for us to use and that more registered members should mean more donations. I am just talking about how all of this pertains to the contest.

It's a good point. I was out of pocket today, so missed a lot of the festivities in this thread, and am sorry it got out of hand it seems. Anyway, my personal feeling is if it brings more traffic here it's a good thing. Heck, this site got mentioned on air yet again because of it. So that is why I get into it. I want to see the site keep growing.

And yeah, ultimately we don't know where people get the answers. Although as I pointed out in another thread - a google on "WFAN 2009 Super Bowl Trivia Answers" links this thread numero uno. So there's a good chance it is involved. :)

Hey, I'm glad we're all getting along well again fellas,

Now that all of the cards are on the table, perhaps you might inspire me to not have you lot holding a class-action law suit on your hands by the Thursday after the Super Bowl.

The grounds for tampered contests have been well-trodden in the course of Supreme-Court history with the plaintiff winning almost every time. Most of those times the Glendale118 (who strangely knew all of the answers), sorry I mean the espoused of the host of the game show in question wasn't involved.

Get back to me.

I fail to see your point. Get back to us. Thanks !

You have to see that some of the questions they ask you have to look up, i hardly doubt a lot of people out there know stuff like what SB QB's shared same college with a president or how many rushes "X" player had in SB 15. So doing research and being on the ball is all well and good.

My 2 gripe with the contest are:

1: The decline in questions this year from previous years (and they way they are worded)

2: the handling of what callers get through and how some people get through on multiple days while others can never get through. Since the contests birth you have probably 1,000x more callers this year then the first 2 years. In those first 2 years it was pretty easy to get through, now that everyone has figured out you can google the answers or just think they can get them right it's sheer impossible to get through. I feel next year they should change the contest. When someone calls and gets through they should have to answer a question off-air and if they do not get it right they should not be allowed on air to answer the 4 questions to win the trip. This way you can un-flood the lines and you'll have real players getting on air and the "right" people will have a chance at winning this contest. Not someone who says " Lawrence Mahoney! or the BEAR brothers or someone saying Miami University instead of Miami of Ohio" Give the die-hard football fans a chance to go see the pinnicale of games.

I was listening to the contest all week trying to get through just like everybody else here. When Mike started to mention the "website" on air I became curious. So I googled it and here I am......Now, what I really don't understand is that with this being such a difficult contest to win, and everybody here trying to win the trip, and seemingly having the answers....why the hell would you want to give that information out and thus reduce your chances of winning??? Makes no sense to me....I mean most people are googling to get the info that they don't have, and if a website comes up when they type, "WFAN Super Bowl trivia answers", why wouldn't they then go ahead and use that information? You can't fault someone for that. Seems to me you guys have only yourselves to blame.......If you don't want people to "steal" the answers from this forum....well then, it seems to me they're shouldn't be a forum posting the answers. There are other ways of communicating to each other that aren't quite so public. As somebody who has a very good knowledge of Super Bowl trivia and has done a little research and homework, I for one was more than a little disappointed that this forum was making the answers so readily available and easily accesssible to the average Joe.... Believe me, there would be a lot less people calling the show if they didn't know there was a website providing them with the answers. So if you don't want people to get the answers right and want to give yourself a legitimate shot at winning the trip....DON'T PUT THE ANSWERS UP ON A WEBSITE!!!! Otherwise quit complaining about it and give yourself a pat on the back for helping Lisa from Whitestone and all the others win a trip to Super Bowl XLII

remember to all out there who r in it to win it, the hardest thing is 2 get through. then luck plays a key role in it w/ the ? given, becuz u know if it was the dog he would have hammered lisa from whitestone . the ? were tougher last yr. and alot of key ? where omitted this yr. i did all the research for every player that scored a td in a super bowl and what college they went to and have been updating it for the last 2 yrs. by switching the last player part. if any one is interested will fax to u directly.

Did any of the questions Mike used in 2009 come up during the 2010 contest? Mike did say there is only so much Super Bowl trivia!
