QUESTION TO THE BOARDMEMBERS ABOUT SITE PERFORMANCE

11-30-2006, 07:09 PM
Have you noticed the site going down with a debug error, it happened to me twice, now my webhost is telling me that I have to monitor my own site and call in when this happens. But they can't explain why this never happened on the old phpbb message board with more people on the site at the same time than ever occurred with the new board.

So I may have to make one more final move and I am not sure if I will be able to keep these posts. I was thinking about using a host that services jetsinsider.net and using a similar message board.

My question is what do you want me to do? This is your site, so let me know what you think is best. This webhost is not good and we are only going to have more problems as this site grows.

mikefran:

before you make any decisions i think you should figure out how to backup and restore this forum. honestly, you probably shouldve done that before the new board move but whats done is done.

i think that this host is fair at best. performance has sucked the past few months but i havent seen the debug errors.

What are the fees for these boards? I'm totally clueless on this **** but there has to be someone out there who is an expert on this.

If it's all the same I say try to find a reliable host that people have heard of.

Just a thought.

***Yes I have seen the debug errors roughly 3-4 times...

Just back up all of Jerome's posts, and we'll be fine...

;)

Jerome that old board is backed up, every post has been saved. It is just the webhosts don't know how to bring the data along with the update. I am not going to erase anything.

i really like that. the idea of sig pics is very cool, not sure what options mikefran had in mind but i kinda like the look of that board.

exactly, if you wanted to move hosts you shouldve went to someone who couldve restored that old board and move it forward. sounds like this provider is quite feckless. who is it btw?

i setup a phpbb before with a group of friends to screw around but i am by no means an expert.

i dont know how much $ you are willing to put into this mikefran so i cant comment on hosts. we used bluehost.

i have a bunch of hardware in my house and could host the site ;-)

Jerome I did not move hosts, I only went from a previous version of phpbb to a newer one that had visual confirmation on registrations, this is still the same webhost that has been hosting since the website began

What are your price packages for hosting

sorry if i am not making myself clear, im trying to put the kids to bed.

i know you didnt change hosts. my point is before you implemented the authentication you SHOULD have moved hosts, taken the old board to the new provider, restored the site and then implemented authentication in parallel.

i am not sure how much we paid for the hosting. it was cheap, like $100 a year but we had no big bandwidth requirements.

Jerome you offered to host the site, I was asking how much you charged, with all due respect Jerome I don't make any money on this site, so I'm sure there are many things I could do

mikefran:

i am not a professional host. just a guy with some hardware.
i was just joking about hosting the site out of my house. i mean technically i could do it but im sure that isnt what you are looking to do :)

I've only saw the error message once since the move to the new board. It was a couple of days ago. Seemed to last for a few hours. I think I remember a similar error on the old board only once. But that was the big one that lost some data.

http://www.vbulletin.com/

Came across this via wackbag.com which is the Opie and Anthony Unofficial message board. It's very reliable and simple to use....

Just a thought.
