the pretentious pair 04-18-2009, 08:45 AM Some calculatah issues with the site this am ?
BIG start for Wang today. Yankee fans looking for their #1 to fire a Salvo.
Mets hope to make it 2 in a row w/Santaner after a walk-off win.
The Rangiz need to go up 2-0.
Can't listen to WFAN today at Citi Field - who can handle Evan and Johnnie ?
Beautiful day, so who wants to be inside ?
Timmy_Russo 04-18-2009, 08:49 AM Damn...beat me to it... :D I was just about to post the thread. Oh well, here is what I had:
Good Sports Saturday:
Brewers/Mets 1pm - Will the Mets score for Johan
Indians/Yanks - The FOX game...Battle of 0-2 pitchers Carmona vs Wang
Rangers at 1pm, can they come home 2-0
NBA Playoffs....
...
Rutgers Spring Game, UConn Spring Game...double handwave I know...but I will be there
Have at it...
Timmy_Russo 04-18-2009, 08:50 AM Also...very flaky site this morning. Was down for quite a while.
Just noticed that our newest member is BINGLE. Great one! That didn't take long! Welcome, Bingle.

Sorry, I started a game thread as I didn't see this thread because the calculatah that makes this site work was not functioning properly. The people who MOD pays to put all the stuff we type on to the calculator must have slept late, so I couldn't see this thread.
Timmy_Russo 04-18-2009, 08:54 AM why is time going backwards?? Its 10:52, not 9:52
I have seen this in the past...especially if you are not logged in, and just browsing the site all posts are an hour off. JIM!

Pitch and Catch 04-18-2009, 08:58 AM Yeah. I've been trying to get on since 8:00 this morning. Mod needs to stop having Jim run the board on weekends.

unfathomable 04-18-2009, 09:11 AM if anyone else heard hagin's call on the sheff HR, i'd be interested in your opinion. i thought it was a little lame.
Rick DiPeeardo 04-18-2009, 09:15 AM 2 more days of games for the Unclevah Ballclub to get up off the mat from the current 18-1 beatdown (the 1 is a Heilman blown save, which is pretty funny) that RD is issuing. And next week we add Beltran and Morneau.
Blessed!
Yes, I'm talking fantasy baseball trash.
Yes, that's really lame.
No, I never have played fantasy baseball before this year, and Unclever will probably win like 15-4.

Now if we can just get Oh Really to believe in the 2009 Mets................................I kid becoss I too am jaded from the past, but I want to believe that these guys at least owe it to themselves....their money notwithstanding.

same here for me too. currently i'm beating keith 16-3, but of course that could change on a dime if my guys take the weekend off.

are we sure?
gee whiz.
I am off to the bawlpawk!
Lets go Mets and Rangers and a repeat scenario for jeff Gordon at Phoenix later on todee!
Big day on tap. Lets pound Gallardo even though it FML in the ESPN fantasy scenario. I have a feeling I'm screwed this week anyway with the Mora/Tatis DL and Hamels s******.
Congrats to Jerry Rello -- no way humanly possible he could lose this week to an undermanned Mink squad.

Rick DiPeeardo 04-18-2009, 09:31 AM Geez, tough start to the baseball season from a "viewing" point of view for RD this year.
I couldn't see one Met/Marlin game. Now I'm outta luck on a Saturday aftahnoon with the FOX scenario. At least I get a nice fat Ranger playoff game to keep me occupied. But geez, $169 doesn't get you as many "extra innings" as it used to....

Today isn't "blacked out" so far as I can tell. Just no 1pm games on the MLB extras on cable. And I am NOT paying MLB for any games on my computah or radio calls of games I can't see this year as I have in past years. It's not the $, it's the principal.

A Couple Quickies 04-18-2009, 09:51 AM 500 as a pinch hitter, thats sort of an indignity, isn't it?
Sheff is really sickening to listen to. 8 freakin teams and 7 welcomes WORN OUT, and this carpetbagger takes the cadillace curtain call at Shea. 500 ain't what it used to be and it definately isn't when you have a roid resume tracking you. I guess you've got to be pumped to hit it, but man oh man, give it a rest Gary, would ya please gee whiz!
unfathomable 04-18-2009, 09:52 AM just looking over the scores from last night...the braves lost, but jair jurrjens pitched well for my fantasy team 6.2 IP, 1 ER, 7 K. now that's what i call, the best of both worlds...don't tell mad dog though.

hey gary, i hope the folks at BALCO didn't hear that.

Johnny loves to come off this sincere, I-wear-my-heart-on-my-sleeve NY kinda guy. But he'll nevah go against his breathern. He'll always take the playahs side of things. Plus, he didn't know when it was time to leave, and didn't do the Mets any favors with his inside politicing.

He is one lucky guy who never got it. You would think that after several teams dropped him, he would have realized that it's not just about him. Not that he will cahh, but he has to live with himself, his denial, and own BS. Don't think he'll be on the podium in Cooperstown too soon. A Couple Quickies 04-18-2009, 11:00 AM This Kalas situation is so far and above the classiest thing I've ever seen any Philly team do. Its really great even if the wake is a shaky scenario, I guess he's that big of a deal. But from top to bottom, canceling the white house, going silent for the first inning last night, its really a tribute to the man and the city.

I agree, it's all been classy.
But now that Harry's on the field, you gotta figure that if he doesn't get a hit in his first few at bats, they'll probably boo him.

I saw it like this. Small downgrade at pitcher, but with injuries, you never know. Kinsler/Morneau is basically a wash, and I have A Ramirez to plug in a 2nd, so that works well for me. And a huge upgrade for me with Beltran over Ankiel.

I'm still worried about the Rangers. Lundqvist is playing great, but watching the Caps is scary. They are capable of scoring 3 goals in 5 minutes and completely turning the momentum of the series in their favor.
I think the Devils-Canes series will be a war. They probably split in Carolina. This series is the one I'd pick to go 7.

Exactly.
I think the worst thing for the Rangers right now would be to give up the tying goal late in the 3rd, say in the last minute or two and then lose in OT. If you're that close to going up 2-0 heading home, losing a lead can be very deflating. Granted, they already got what they came for (a split) but at this point, you've got to be greedy. If you can get up 2 games going to MSG, you're putting a TON of pressure on Washington. The next game is basically do-or-die for them in that case.
Is anyone alive out there 04-18-2009, 12:58 PM well that sucked - seemed like Beltran could've run a a little harder back to 2nd

Both done.
devils950003 04-18-2009, 01:09 PM Eh. Out of all the sports hockey is the one where anything can happen and home ice means nothing so I wouldn't be that worried. Obviously going down 2-0 isn't ideal but everything that's gone wrong for the Caps in the first two games can just easily turnaround in the next two. The Rangers margin of error is very slim, even a slight drop in their level of play would send them home.
You're right; I just wouldn't want to ever fall behind 2-0 going on the road, especially when Washington is already showing clear signs of frustration. It almost reminds me of the '07 Rangers-Atlanta series. Rangers playing an explosive team w/questionable goaltending that they contain in the first two games on the road. In Game 3, the Rangers smoked Atlanta 7-0 and the series was over just like that. Things can turn around quickly, but they can also snowball just as fast.

Always has, always will be.
How else do you think Yankee hitters have built up their inflated stats over the years?

Please.. It's even worse this year. Outside of Jeter, Yankees batters rarely ever got cheap HRs. You think Paul O'Neill and Tino got cheap HRs at the old stadium? Most of those HRs were uppah deckahs. This year I've seen atleast 5 by Yankees and opponents.

The old Yankee Stadium (1923-1973 version) was only 296 down the line to right field IIRC. Ruth had a field day with that.

Rick DiPeeardo 04-18-2009, 02:14 PM Pitching coach comes out to tell Wang that batting practice was earlier, and this is the game.

I'd love to bitchslap him myself right now. (I'm turning into Glendale)

To be fair, there were two guys in front of me yesterday wearing Friday business casual clothing.....let's just say they don't shop at Sears all that much.
tomkier3 04-18-2009, 02:14 PM mute might be an option for this game. Buck isn't that bad but McCarver, PIPE DOWN!!!!

Wang apparantly didn't understand him.

It's inevitable. Although you don't have to be rich to act like you're rich. I'm sure we all know "that guy" or "that girl", who buys the finest clothes, cars, etc. and then they wonder why they don't have a dime to their name and they owe $20K in cc debt.
Talk to me in August 04-18-2009, 02:17 PM They gotta do something about these expensive seats scenario. It simply looks awful having all these empty seats.
It's a beautiful Saturday on the opening weekend of a new stadium...
What's this mess going to be like in late July?
I can feel a bleeding ulcer coming on.
tomkier3 04-18-2009, 02:18 PM Yankees fans are going off on Wang. Well deserved. This bum doesn't know how to battle. CAN YOU EVER GO 5-6 INNINGS WITHOUT YOUR BEST STUFF!!!!!!!!
Rick DiPeeardo 04-18-2009, 02:18 PM Is this C.M Wang? Or his twin brother Jimmy Wang?

They should sell it at lower prices (they're trying to hawk it to season ticket holders who already have seats), but that would be "unfair" to those who already bought tickets in that section....
I'm sure by mid-July they'll lower the prices and say "too bad" to the other season ticket holders in field level.
Talk to me in August 04-18-2009, 02:20 PM FOX killing the Yanks and the seats.
jack12k8 04-18-2009, 02:21 PM At least these guys are blatantly showing the empty seats and discussing it. On Yes, Kaye and company would be sent to Siberia if that was done.
Unclever Name 04-18-2009, 02:21 PM Wang was lucky that ball didn't carry....

Why can't they just refund the 30 people who bought them at full price?
It's time to call up Hughes--he couldn't be worse, and this is trainwreck baseball.

The Yankees, give back money?!?!? HAHA.
