Default Sid's days at the FAN.....OVER!

I have received a bunch of emails from listeners on this forum and the New York City Message Board about a possible return to the FAN in the near future.....you want a safe bet? Bet NO!

For starters, I don't believe the "powers that be" (especially the Eric Spitz's of the world) want me back. Secondly, it is a rash judgement to assume I want to be back there....truth be told, I don't. While I readily agree that a voice in my hometown would be nice the FAN would NOT be my first choice.

I am actually down on the station both from an on-air and off-air standpoint. I have a chance to listen (via the internet) a little each day and my relatives up there still listen religously and we've all come to the same conclusion....this is NOT the FAN your dad told you about!

I personally don't like Craig Carton on or off the air and while I like Boomer I can't imagine the show is any good. And I'm sure that on its best day it doesn't hold a candle to the great Imus shows we put on. I LOVE Joe Benigno both on and off the air and I'm also very fond of Somers too. Some of the younger guys (Malusis, Licata, etc) are talented up and comers as well. But for the most part FAN is filled with monstrous egos who aren't nearly as good on the air as they'd like you to believe.

The station will always be a big biller and always have a sizable audience because of the market but that's NOT necessarily an accurate indicator of the overall talent.

I am only in year 1 of a 4 year deal down here and I've started to create a really nice niche in this market. Plus the people I work with down here appreciate my talent and treat me with respect. Not that a return is out of the question, but I would rather end up on a non-sports station or a satellite format.

With that said, thanks again for the continued loyalty and Let's Go Giants!!!!

keep doin' your thing sid.

and as soon as imus comes back, anyone listening to norman and the ******bag (most of whom do so by default more than anything else) will ditch them.

how about a reunion with the i-man on 770?

Imus was terrible. Only when he had good guests on was it listenable, the rest was junk. Boomer and Carton are ok, but when TK returns from MNF he rules the mornings. Sid is ok on 790, but Lebatard rules Miami.

I really don't follow Sid's comments because it sure seemed like he would have done anything to be back on WFAN.

Why the about face?

"I personally don't like Craig Carton on or off the air" pretty harsh words there Sidney, sounds like something personal other than just job related interesting stuff about the younger guys too where he says they think they are better then they are. Maybe he is angling for a Sirius gig as well Sid you are always filled with such drama.

When Sid first came on the board he said that he would not say anything negative about WFAN or its talent. It doesn't bother me, but for someone who was supposed to be taking the high road, this is pretty low. Slamming MMD is one thing, but those young guys are trying hard to make it and don't seem arrogant to me. I am talking about Evan, Carlin, Malusis. I have not heard Carton, so don't know what his deal is.

I don't know what these "talent" comments mean. Radio is all about ratings and the Fan gets them. They are doing something right. And talk about no-talent, that is Somers through and though. He is the absolute worst.

Ths feels a bit like me writing to say that I don't want to be CEO of Goldman Sachs. It is really not relevant since they have not asked me. I think Sid was totally lined up for a return UNTIL the Rutgers incident. All I know is if Chernof wanted Sid back, he would be there tomorrow.

I think Sid would like to work on the Stern show, but it would not be funny. Sid's appeal on Imus was being able to do sports in an entertaining way and say some funny things that were shocking and different vs. the political discussions on the show. If he was on Stern, it would be just another guy talking dirty.

Wonder how The Ticket feels about Sid talking about returning to NYC or the Fan or a satellite gig when he just signed this new deal? They gave him a job when no one else would touch him and he does not seem to have much gratitude.

One other thing about Carlin... While he is not as talented as Sid, he shows up every time and works his butt off at several different jobs. He also covered for Sid several times.

You can have all the talent in the world, but it does you no good if they can't count on you. I am glad Sid is over all his problems, but the Fan was pretty good to him.

They kept after the Direct TV fine, the Kylie Minouge comment and the Venus Willaims thing. They even took him back after the Cleveland incident and kept him until he did not show up for a New York Giants game. Even after that, they let him back on the Imus show.
