Default Did You Guys Hear Tino Martinez Hang Up on Boomer and Carton

Forgive me if this has been already discussed, but Tino Martinez was getting grilled by Carton and hung up quickly yesterday morning. He was on to talk about his charity and answered some steroid questions, but Carton tried to play the tough guy act and kept pressing. You could tell Boomer was humiliated.

When will they learn this guy is nothing but trouble? He even said he will go and grill Torre when the Dodgers come to town - doubt he follows through on that

Actually Neil Best caught it. Tino was scheduled to go on ESPN Radio's Mike + Mike show.

For the record, I am NOT a Carton apologist. But the question was not unreasonable. Yes, Carton was digging a bit, but (as I recall), he wanted Tino's response to how many MLB players were doing PED's around 1998. It was quite obvious (to me) that he did not want to talk about the steroid issue any longer, and just blew it off.

That's what happens when an ex-Yankee goes on a radio show where the hosts call the NY Mets "we". As in "we have to get off to a fast start this season".

Carton's awful and Boomer's a bore.

I didn't hear it, but Carton must have got on Tino pretty good if he hung up. Martinez doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would get upset or impatient easily. He's always been pretty good with the media.

Excellent. Nothing worse than a coworker or acquaintance using the "we" business, no less someone who's supposed to be a (somewhat) objective host.

C'mon Hut...it's more like that's what happens when you ask an athelete a question that he does not want to answer. Let's face it, none of these guys want to incriminate their own, nor do they want to admit they knew anything about anyone, even if they did not partake in the festivities.

I agree, but I seriously doubt Carton would harp on it if the interviewee were Jay Payton, Benny Agbayani, Shinjo or Carlos Delgado.

Good point....he would have to show some guts with Mets, otherwise, he's just another version of M&MD

ha ha ha. i have to laugh at you guys. so, instead of calling tino a bozo for hanging up on boomer and carton - you're saying that carton is the bad guy? don't you give him any credit for trying to find out the answer? doesn't he get an a for effort? i just don't get you guys. you're all just so hateful. you don't give credit where credit is due.

Another Carton gem this morning with Evander Holyfield. It's up on WFAN.com if you're interested.

Carton asks the most uncomfortable questions that it makes you cringe. It's great radio but Holyfield had no idea who this guy was and what he was getting into. Boomer tries to do damage control but once Carton gets going it's tough to reign him in. Mad Dog does this from time to time but it's few and far between nowadays.

That was a great interview!!! Carton went after him about being in the ring too long, health concerns, about trying to pay for his kids, and steroids....and Evander took it all in stride in a very professional matter. Unlike Tino (a favorite of mine), who avoided the questioning and ran away from it. Sorry, but Carton has shown himself to be a great interviewer in those situations.

Default Tino

Norman (Bomber Ession) considers Tippo a peer/friend.
Carton is there to ask the questions that Norman hasn't got the balls to ask.

Guys

With all due respect Carton wouldn't stop belaboring the point about steriods. He asked the question 2- 3 times and Tino gave him the answer that was professional without throwing anyone under the bus. Carton even went as far to say that some could make an argument that Tino did the stuff. He was rude and unprofessional. Carton has to learn that being a "tough guy" will not endear him to the teams. To even say he is a journalist is disrespect to guys like Mike Vaccarro, Pete Gammons, Rosenthal etc.

It would have been nice if they had Tino on, talked about his foundation, discussed the steroids hypothetically, and then talked about what he plans on doing going foward, memories etc.

Say what you want about Mike and Chris but that is the way they would have handled it and the proper way.

I don't see many people coming on that show as guests if Carton is on there. I certainly wouldn't if I were them.
