Default Official Triple Crown Thread - Bettors Get Ready

We all know Mike loves the hawses so I figured this kind of thread could play for the big three races this year. Contrary to board belief, the most exciting two minutes in sports did not take place on Oomer's honeymoon, they take place this weekend at Churchill Downs.

I know there are a bunch of horse racing fans on the board, but it's my feeling any juice in this thread will come from the degenerate gamblers we have here (I'm looking at you Checker).

So have at, they held the draw this afternoon, I think you can find the post positions here http://www.kentuckyderby.com/2009/index so good luck everyone. My only tip right now is listen Friday, find out which horse Mike likes and cross that horse from your list. More tips to come, stay tuned.

And as an added bonus, here is the greatest article ever penned on the Derby..

http://thebivouac.wordpress.com/2008...-and-depraved/

Have at it...Blessed.

Great job, Southside. This should be a fun thread. Can't wait for the race on Saturday.

Thanks buddy. Muskat Man was on my radar but the two spot is tough.

Good job SSJ...I love the hawses as well.

Quality Road has been pulled from the race already(quarter cracks), this leaves Pioneer and Revenge as the clear favorites.

Post positions were also just drawn...

Who knows who is going to win? They aren't Derek Jeter, they're animals! They eat carrots, mollases and oats, who knows how this thing is going to wake up!

OK, I'm done. I've been to a few Belmont Stakes in the past, it's a fun day. One year it rained the whole time and the place was covered in aluminum beer cans, it was digusting. I think that was the year the horse from philadelphia was in it.

Yeah, Smarty Jones. I was there as well. It was miserable that day.

I have been to a few. One year I went to all three races. It was the year Funny Cide went for the Triple Crown but lost it i the stretch of the Belmont. They must have burned his Oats that morning.

I think I was there for that one as well. I think the year Smarty Jones won some 50-1 longshot wound up winning. I'm not into betting or horseracing but I put down small bets when I'm there. I was going to put $10 down on that horse just for fun but didn't. Poorly produced.

I've gone almost every year for the last decade...So if Friday's meetup has some juice we could plan for another one then...Not so much an organized one, more like a Where's Waldo type thing. If you find the Junkie you get a free cigar!!!

I have my eye on a couple longshots for da Derby, but I to look at the past performance program a little more. I will post some picks on Saturday before the race because I know you all are waiting with baited breath for my selections.

Lot of work to do, but I'm chipping away, a horse coming from post 17 or 19 has never won a Derby, so add that to Mike's pick and I've already crossed off three horses...

I know nothing about the hawsies but Ill pick a trifecta based on the silks I think are the best (hey it works for women in the football pools) so Im gonna go with I Want Revenege (going out a real limb there ) Freisan Fire and Papa Clem.

Silks, I have heard worse ways to figure it out. It's really a mess with so many horses. It will be interesting to see how short those odds for Revenge will go...

For all you NBA fans, Join in the Dance, the horse breaking from the 9 post, is co-owned by Rashard Lewis of the Magic.

Big Brown went off at a little better than 2-1. I'm not sure the "business community" will bet Revenge down that low. I like that horse a lot, but upon first glance, this is a pretty open race.

Correct me if im wrong but didnt the Derby used to have much smaller fields? Isnt a 20 horse derby really diluting the race and taking any advantage away from the horse that really is the best?
