Default Jets DB Darrelle Revis Hangs Up on WFAN's Mike Francesa

Jets DB Darrelle Revis Hangs Up on WFAN's Mike Francesa.

Mike Francesa introduced his interview with Darrelle Revis on WFAN on Friday by saying the cornerback is "the only Jet who talks to me, the only one who likes me, still."

That wouldn't last long. The discussion ended with a Jets public relations official coming on the line as Revis got increasingly agitated and instructing him to hang up, which he did.

The disagreement centered on whether Revis did or did not interfere with Dolphins receiver Brandon Marshall on Monday night before intercepting a pass and returning it 100 yards for a touchdown.

As the two went back and forth, Francesa insisted a penalty should have been called, smiling and laughing occasionally. Later, he said he was being playful and "kidding around with him."

Revis insisted he had done nothing that should have been penalized and that Marshall had tripped into him. He dismissed Francesa's assertion that he knows football well enough to judge. He also did not seem to be playful or kidding.

"Do you know football or are you good at interviewing?" he asked.
Said Francesa: "I'm both.''
Revis: "No you're not. You're good at one and I'm good at one."

Later, Revis said there are "a number of things that go on on that field that you have no clue" and added sarcastically, "But you know football."
When Francesa noted that ESPN analyst Jon Gruden considered it a penalty, Revis said, "I don't care who said it -- Jon Gruden, you, whoever. I don't care."

As Francesa began to respond, a third voice came on and said, "Hey, Darrelle, Darrelle, stop." Francesa asked who was talking and Jared Winley of the Jets' p.r. staff identified himself.

At that point, Revis could be heard saying, "This is why nobody wants to get interviewed by him."

Winley instructed Revis to hang up. He did, saying, "Bye."
Francesa called Revis' action "unbelievable" and cited his long-contentious relationship with the Jets. "Now I have no Jets to talk to," he said.

But Jets chief spokesman Bruce Speight said, "Our approach toward accommodating any requests for WFAN remains the same. We'll schedule guests on their shows on an occasional basis and in a manner respectful of our relationship with 1050 [ESPN, which broadcasts Jets games]."

Winley apologized to Francesa's producer, Ray Martel, for Revis hanging up. "In my judgment, given the tone of the interview, I should have asked Mike to move on to another topic instead of instructing Darrelle to hang up the phone," he said. "That was an error on my part."

Our Sources in the WFAN studio claim after the hang up, Mike was yelling words to the effect, "I built this phukkking place, nobody hangs up on me".

There are rumors that will not be specified on this forum that Jared Winley is a buffer/wrangler for the Jets organization.

The above are rumors and not facts, they are allegations.

We have more rumors, these are double sourced:

Breaking: The whole entire Darrelle Revis hanging up on WFAN's Mike Francesa was a hoax, a ruse, coordinated by the Jets to take the heat off Rex Ryan and his comments about the San Diego head coach and WFAN's Mark Chernoff in an attempt to placate the Jets and get ratings.

We may have to censor the rumors about Jared Winley as we are not sure it is fair to post them without two sources, right now we only have one source that he is one of the Corleone family buffers, uh, we mean one of the Jets organization buffers.

So it was a hoax but Mike wasn't in on it?? If he was why would he be screaming after Revis hung up?

Mike was in on the hoax, this is all part of the WWF nonsense that this non story has become, how is this a back cover story?

Was anyone listening to Mike's NFL show this morning. I caught the tail end of a call, missed the caller, only heard part of Mike's response at around 10:50 AM.

Mike said something along the lines of this, "This idea that I talk to anybody about the show off the air is crazy".

Does anyone know what he was referring to?

I love how Mike spent most of Monday discussing the Revis phone call. This was old news by Saturday morning yet it received 24/7 WFAN treatment. The mongloid callers were out in full force. I heard one caller say he was a Jets fan but a bigger Mike Francesa fan, really, yes you are a real caller and not some phoney plant.

I heard another caller state Revis was his favorite player but now he would no longer root for him, ok, sure. Another caller asked Tony Paige if he thought the Revis interception was an important play in the game. Tony mumbled something incoherently because Tony probably didn't even watch the Jets game.

Then you had a caller ask Mike how old Brent Musberger is, does the caller have access to the internet? Anyway after Mike guessed in his mind that he was 70, his producer told him he looked it up, he is 72, Mike then rambled for five minutes, pondering on whether 72 sounded right, even after Mike gets confirmed information he needs to turn it over in his mind, finally conceding well of course it is right, it was looked up. Strange Mike, very strange.

Today Mike made fun of a caller who claimed he listened to the Revis interview three times, saying that caller must have too much time on his hands, go take a walk or read a book, surely Mike has never followed the first bit of advice. Hey Mike, would you say that someone who listens to one hour of your show every day has too much time on his hands?

Earlier last week, Mike had a younger sounding more educated version of Joe Benigno in the studio, some Syracuse college grad who won a contest and hosts two hours a month on WFAN during the overnights. Mike tells the guy he hasn't listened to him, then after the spot is over, Mike tells the audience, actually I have listened to him and he is very good, ok Mike.

Today Mike claimed the only factors in how long he keeps a caller on the air is that they bring something interesting to the program. How is that possible when Mike has his hand on the dump button just as the caller is finishing his first sentence. When it was Mike and Dog a caller had a chance to make a few points, now most callers get ten seconds and Mike continues his loser method of asking the caller a question, hanging up on them, pretending they are in awe and can't answer, and then answering his own question.

Steve Somers on Saturday was shouting that the Francesa/Revis call was so big that the story had gone international.

The real sad story is that WFAN has gotten so bad that they had to create a hoax in order to generate ratings. The Mike Francesa/Darrell Revis call/hang up was a hoax folks, it was staged, it was fake, it was phoney, the station sukks.

Default "Mike The Pope" Does it Again

Really disappointed but not surprised at Mike's relentless ribbing of Darrelle. Like one caller stated, you have an obligation to conduct a quality interview to the thousands of fans listening, especially to one of the better players in the NFL. Put your ego aside as well as your hatred for Rex. You're starting to sound like an old, negative senior citizen. Maybe time to be replaced.

It's too bad they don't have a real station to compete against them ...

Well it probably seemed international in scope to Somers because nothing that has ever happened on his "show" has ever generated enough interest to be discussed by anyone outside the WFAN studio. Except maybe the time in the 1980s when Darryl Strawberry fell asleep on him during an interview.

To give him a little credit, Somers made news sort of when he interviewed Jerry Seinfeld about Lady Gaga in his seats at Citifield. But the odd Seinfeld/Somers friendship has Somers thinking he should do a 100% comedy show instead of sports.
