Default March 2012 Monthly Thread

Spring training, NBA, NHL, and March Madness. I have no idea who the top college basketball teams are but Mike will let us know.

Looking forward to the start of spring training this afternoon. Hoping the Yankees pull it all together this year and make it into the new playoff system and past the first round this time.

Interested to see how Tex goes the other way, taking advantage of the shift, as he's mentioned this week and how, if at all, it changes how the defense positions against him.

Hoping Arod stays healthy, Cano stays Cano, Gardner is a bit more confident on the bases, Granderson repeats or has a comparable season, and Mo has another banner year before setting off on his journey into the Hall.

Not really looking forward to Michael Kay, but am interested in the newfound Valentine twist that might add drama between New York and Boston. From the perspective of us fans, and Mike, anyway. One thing will be interesting -- watching an ESPN broadcast where Valentine and Francona have swapped jobs.

Anyway, a staff without AJ means no more of that pre and post game nonsense. That'll also be refreshing.

I think I read that Swisher will be doing the pies if that is what you meant. I think their starting rotation has some question marks when you get past Sabathia. A lot of potential but not sure things.

Nah, I wasn't referring to the pies (not a fan of that thought). I meant all the pre and post game drama about how he'll do this game, and the aftermath of yet another collapse and the week long chatter about dumping him.

Yeah, the rotation has question marks. We'll see how it all pans out.

Anyway, Mike is back to his usual annoying self of cutting off callers before they even have a chance to make their point. I cannot stand when he does that. He takes the first few words someone says, interrupts the caller with his nonsense, then runs with his own spin on a comment that hasn't even been made yet! Such a creep.

the angry mets fan had a point but mike kept shutting him up and talking over him..caller was right, wilpon didnt want piazza and it was doubleday who had to do it.probably the main reason doubleday got out..it was probably doubleday that gave go ahead for foster, bonilla, saberhagen, murray etc..

Mike is spending most of his show today on Wilt Chamberlain. I guess nothing else to talk about but it gets kind of boring.

Evan was saying the Saints bounty story was really no big deal. Maybe it is commonplace in the NFL but when a team and its coaches know about a plan to give money to players for inflicting injuries that is a serious issue. If Sean Payton really knew about it and didn't stop it, I think he should be suspended at least a year if not more. What do you guys think?

I agree and I think Evan is one of the top idiots at WFAN.

I expect Mike to take the exact opposite view Evan takes and talk about this bounty issue a lot until fines/suspensions come down.

Mike likes to take the contrarian approach of the popular opinion. I am not sure which way he will go, either calling for lifetime bans or saying it is no big deal and short suspensions and fines would be enough.

Didn't Mike say after Alex Smith and the 49'ers offense gouged the Saints defense in the playoffs that Gregg Williams was over-rated as a defensive coordinator and he called a lot of blitzes. Maybe we know now the underlying reason for those blitzes. Just read that Williams is being summoned to the NFL offices.

Just imagine if Lin scored 57 points like Deron Williams did. It would be the lead story on TV and in the newspapers, not buried in the sports section. I am not criticizing Lin, just putting things in perspective.

Very true, didn't even know that Williams scored 57 until this post. D'Antoni is a weak coach, what is with his theory that he rarely calls timeouts to script plays because it gives the defense a chance to prepare, I can understand doing that a few times but 90 percent of the time he doesn't call timeout. Also it is beyond idiotic to play Rondo the way the Knicks and others in the league defend him, why would you give an amazing passer complete vision of the half court by playing ten feet away, the defender is not covering Rondo and not covering anybody else, basically 5 on 4.

And since D'Antoni refuses to make decisions at the end of games, I'm sure he didn't even contemplate fouling the Celtics to prevent them from shooting a three.

I'd like to see what Phil Jackson could do with this Knicks team.

Paul Pierce is not an "all-time great". How do you not open with the bountygate, who cares about the Knicks. The bloom has come off that rose.

Of course everyone cares about Iona.

I agree and Mike is taking the "it's no big deal" attitude about bountygate, at least for now. Mike's discussion of the Knicks game sounds like he read about it the newspaper rather than watching it.
