Thank You President Obama for standing by your campaign pledge to focus on the real war, Afghanistan and Al Qaeda

I certainly don’t understand Michael Savage’s radio program today, how can any conservative criticize President Obama’s decision to add 17,000 troops to the war in Afghanistan. What am I missing, that is where our troops should have been the last seven years. I truly thought Obama was lying during the campaign when he said he would take the fight to Al Qaeda and finish the job in Afghanistan.
So far, Obama is standing behind his campaign pledge:

The order will add nearly 50 percent to the 36,000 American troops already there. A further decision on sending more troops will come after the administration completes a broader review of Afghanistan policy, White House officials said.

Mr. Obama said in a written statement that the increase was “necessary to stabilize a deteriorating situation in Afghanistan, which has not received the strategic attention, direction and resources it urgently requires.”

At least for now, Mr. Obama’s decision gives American commanders in Afghanistan most but not all of the troops they had asked for. But the decision also carries political risk for a president who will be sending more troops to Afghanistan before he has begun to fulfill a promised rapid withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

I am a fan of Michael Savage but sometimes his opinions confound me. If we are to believe Savage, we are to believe he has no idea why Obama will send more troops to Afghanistan, really Michael, have you heard of Bin Laden, have you heard of Al Qaeda, wouldn’t it make sense to finish the job and finally take care of the masterminds behind September 11.

I truly think some of these conservatives are scared or jealous of Obama. So now Michael Savage is a peacenik. The same Michael Savage who said we should nuke Saudi Arabia, now he is against taking the fight to Al Qaeda. Was Savage this vocal after 9/11, did he proclaim we could not win when Bush first sent troops to Afghanistan?

I mean all we heard during the campaign from Hannity, Limbaugh, Savage and the rest of the conservatives was that Obama was palling around with terrorists, that Obama wouldn’t protect us. Obama just made the most aggressive move against Bin Laden in eight years and conservatives don’t like it.

Are they scared that Obama will do what Bush did not?

Now let’s see if Obama follows this up with an actual strategy to end the Al Qaeda sanctuaries on the Pakistan/Afghanistan border.

Let’s see if Obama sees past the Pakistani deceptions.

I believe that Pakistan has been protecting Bin Laden the entire time. There is no way this guy has survived so long without state help. I don’t believe he is in a cave. I think he is in a protected home in Pakistan.

Will Obama go all the way, will he discard the Alfred E Newman of the left tag that has plagued his administration’s opening days, stay tuned.
