List of Whacky Michelle Obama Quotes

February 20th, 2008 · 3 Comments

I don’t know what to make of all these quotations by Michelle Obama. I think the media and talk radio can sometimes blow these out of proportion. I also don’t like the politically correct society we live in where a quote can take down a candidate. However the media has over examined every Bill Clinton quote so it is only fair to put a spotlight on what Michelle Obama declares.

So we start with this pretentious line:

“Barack is one of the smartest people you will ever encounter who will deign to enter this messy thing called politics.”

The definition of deign is:

condescend: do something that one considers to be below one’s dignity

Then we move to the December, 2007 issue of Vanity Fair:

But Mrs. Obama has no interest in an ongoing quest for the White House. “To me it is now or never.”

There’s an inconvenience factor there, and if we’re going to uproot our lives, then let’s hopefully make a real big dent in what it means to be president of the United States.”

We move on to the notion that it is only Saint Barack who can mend us:

We have lost the understanding that in a democracy, we have a mutual obligation to one another — that we cannot measure the greatness of our society by the strongest and richest of us, but we have to measure our greatness by the least of these. That we have to compromise and sacrifice for one another in order to get things done. That is why I am here, because Barack Obama is the only person in this who understands that. That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation.

Yet she directly contradicts herself with this quote:

“There is still a lot of hard work that we as a country need to do. They can’t look to any one individual, whether it’s Barack or it’s the next new hope that’s going to appear to be that savior. And I would just hate for people to sort of see this potential and think: Oh, now I can rest easy because Barack Obama is going to fix things. It doesn’t work that way.”

You be the judge on whether the following quote is Michelle Obama playing the race card:

From the February 11, 2007, edition of CBS’ 60 Minutes:

KROFT: This is a tough question to ask, but a number of years ago, Colin Powell was thinking about running for president, and his wife, Alma, really did not want him to run.

MICHELLE OBAMA: Mm-hmm.

KROFT: She was worried about some crazy person with a gun.

MICHELLE OBAMA: Mm-hmm.

KROFT: Is that something that you think about?

MICHELLE OBAMA: I don’t lose sleep over it, because the realities are that, you know, as a black man, you know, Barack can get shot going to the gas station, you know. So, you know, you can’t — you know, you can’t make decisions based on fear and the possibility of what might happen. We just weren’t raised that way.

She continues with the theme of Barack Obama as Superman:

“Iowa will make the difference,” Mrs. Obama said. “If Barack doesn’t win Iowa, it is just a dream. If we win Iowa, then we can move to the world as it should be.”

We finish with this gem:

“For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country,” she told a Milwaukee crowd today, “because it feels like hope is making a comeback.”

[...] Let’s get this straight. Michelle Obama is fair game from now until her husband loses in November. In the primary, she made herself an arm of his campaign. She still makes appearances and speeches on his behalf. She has given sermons from the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ that are, unapologetically, Marxist in nature. And she wants to be the first spouse of a country she doesn’t terribly like. [...]
